Studley Lane Derry Hill Wiltshire |
Date: 09 Mar 2010 Spot: Village streets
Have just joined this site but have been collecting litter from our 'patch' since we moved here in Dec 2008. We pick up litter whenever and wherever we walk, which is mainly in and around our village & the Bowood Estate footpaths. Last month we visited a place called Spye Park in Bromham for the first time and were appalled by the litter in the lane leading up to the walking area. We cleared as much as we could on the first occasion and broke the back of it and now visit the area every two weeks or so and pick up what's accumulated in that time. The parking area seems a favourite place at weekends to stop, have a few beers, eat a take-away and entertain a girlfriend (judging by the condoms!). We feel a real sense of achievement when we have cleared an area such as this and also in keeping our village clean and litter free and it's great to know there are others like us around the country. |

Carried on down the towpath past Dobbs Weir Lock toward Meadgate Rd. 8 of us today and picked up 26 sacks of the usual rubbish in the ditches! In addition, 2 TVs, carpet, bird cage, blind, 2 trolleys and some metal bars, paint pots etc, all hidden in the bushes. Organised for the Lee Valley Pk Rangers to collect as usual. The shrubs etc will soon be growing again to provide cover so a good time to get rid of it. |

What a lovely day for litter-picking! I've not added a report since November but I do weekly try to do my bit in this area. Not a lot of litter about but that will change as soon as the sun shines and the children and youths are out and about more. Why can't they get the message and use the 7 litter bins that are around here?
Collected two bags of the usual - snack packaging and plastic drinks bottles and lager cans. Delved deep into the bushes and always seem to collect bottles that have been there for years. Also came across a local estate agents "sold" sign, so I've emailed them, reminded them fly-tipping attracts a substantial financial penalty and asked them to pick it up. They have replied saying they would do so ASAP. That felt very satisfying!!!! Also notified the local council of some black dumped bags filled with I don't know what and asked them to collect ASAP. They have also replied saying they would. |

This is not a report about my litter picking !
However today I was very pleasantly surprised to see the Council has cut back shrubbery and at the same time cleared lots of litter which was embedded in the bushes, I am off picking on the 13th with the IWA on the side of the canal in the centre of Northampton. |

Went out Mon collected 4 bags of rubbish including 10 cans in kit form of Fosters lager, new and unopened. This was near the British Legion,I think Fosters must of had a promotion on the Friday night. Out again today, collected another 4 bags, all the same rubbish.
By the way, the new lager cans were returned to the front door of the British Legion.
Now it's all pristine for the weekend. |

Sleet and cold but we did just 50 yards down towpath and collected 11 sacks of rubbish from the ditch alongside it. Plus door mat, long metal pole structure and tarpaulins. Lots of the usual stuff from anglers' equipment to dogs mess in bags, cans, bottles, plastic and other misc rubbish. Some been there for a while and now uncovered since vegetation cut back. Will have to go back to continue along next 100 yards. |
