Awful day - torrential rain - but still managed a quick litter-pick round the top woods - not too much about - but still managed a bag full of the usual drinks bottles and snack packaging. (Plus two bags of dog poo)! |

Collected another two bags of rubbish from the woods behind the bottle bank and from the area to the right of the children's playground. Quite dense wooded area and a lot of the rubbish was wet and very 'mucky'. Lots of carrier bags, some of which get blown in by strong gusts, others left by youths and their alcohol. Now up to 40 bags collected since February. Am kicking myself (so used to negative comments or 'knock-backs) .... a lady passing commented on the area where she lived and said she often felt like get out and doing her bit but felt too self-conscious - I should have given her my telephone number and told her to 'phone when she was free and I'd go and help her - but I didn't think about it until after she had gone!!! |

Out again in the monsoon rain doing my bit!! Today I cleared a collection of beer bottles, baked bean cans, newspapers, magazines, crisp packets, sweet wrappers and an empty box of cream cakes from the bakery all enjoyed no doubt by those travelling in a camper van or caravan due to the baked bean cans! No doubt at the time they enjoyed the stunning surrounds and breathtaking views across to the mountains before dumping rubbish and driving off!!
I just don't get the mentality in such a beautiful wilderness. I will continue to spread the word and encourage others to get involved.
I have to say it does make me feel good to see my clean lay by each time I drive past!! |

Malton Road Beverley East Yorkshire |
Date: 31 Aug 2008 Spot: Footpath & verges
tin cans; plastic bottles; conf'y wrappers; polythene; timber; ass't small metal items; food trays; paper; cig butts; litter picked up most am's while walking dog. Malton Rd has been litter-picked for about 2 years - horrendous at first, but now only have to target & keep on top of current rubbish; I have never seen the LA picking litter on this 1.5ml length of road, but I do occasionally ask them to recover larger items left in the two laybys. On many occasions in the past my wheely bin has so much litter, there is no room for my own waste!! |

As I was driving in the foothills of the beautiful Cuillin mountains on the Isle Of Skye where I live I noticed three, crammed to capacity, heavy carrier bags of discarded empty food packets, Pringles tubes, coke bottles, cans, newspapers, sweet wrappers and discarded packed lunch items. The bags were unbelievably all neatly tied!!
This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and I am constantly amazed at how people can drive up, open their car door, take photos of the beauty and then dump so much litter and think it is ok to do so.
I picked up the offending items in the torrential rain and put them in my car to put in my own bin!!
We have a non profit making Foundation we have set up to support good causes www.piafskye.org, and this is one which we passionately feel should be actively supported. Please visit our website if you would like to find out more!! In the meantime we will continue to assist in keeping the Isle Of Skye beautiful.

Springwood Avenue. Waterlooville Hampshire |
Date: 29 Aug 2008 Spot: Stakes Lodge - top woodlands
Started this am in the bottom woods and then made my way up to the top woods, picking up anything I came to along the way. Felt a bit down-hearted as everywhere looks so scruffy. The usual rubbish to collect plus 4 bags of dog mess left by the lamp-post and others that I picked up. A big advantage in keeping count is that a least when I start wondering if I am wasting my time - I've got something to measure against - it's now 38 bags I think - and that's a lot of litter so I must be doing something worthwhile. (= 114 carrier bags - I imagine them in one heap!) |

Date: 23 Aug 2008 Spot: grass verges
Bucket-full of litter picked up from verges. Traffic has been diverted around this road due to major works on A27 and as a result the amount of litter thrown from cars has increased (ie. cardboard coffee cups, plastic bottles etc) |
